中文摘要 | 本文嘗試建構一個非營利組織理論的經濟學分析架構,以檢視美國的私立中小學在整個美國教育界所具有的規模和扮演的角色。該理論模式認為美國的私立學校的興起與規模是取決於兩個主要的因素:(一)差異的需求,此源於探植人們心中的宗教和語文上的差異與多元性,以及不滿意政府所提供的劃一的制式教育;(二)宗教困體與具有宗教信仰的人士對於興學作育英才的興趣與能力。本文採用一九八O年的美國五十個州的教育統計資料以檢證該理論模式的解釋力。研究方法則是採用「常用最小平方」(Ordinary Least Square, OLS)的迴歸分析法。由於本文預期父母送子女上私小和私中的動機是不同的,因而迴歸分析將分私小和私中兩組進行。最後,本研究的實徵結果將與三個相關的研究做一比較,以評斷該理論模式的優點和不足之處。 |
英文摘要 | This essay presents an economic model of the nonprofit organization theory to analyze the role of private elementary and secondary schools in the United States.This model depicts the size of private schools as being determined by (1) differentiated demand, emanating from deep-seated religious or linguistic diversity and the dislike of a relatively uniform government product; and (2) the supply of religious entrepreneurship to start the private sector. This essay provides empirical evidence by analyzing a data of 50 U.S. states. A statistical method of ordinary least square (OLS) estimates is used. Due to parent's different motivations in sending their children to primary and secondary schools, regressions are run separately in these two levels. Finally, a comparison of the finding of this essay with three other related studies is conducted. |
