英文摘要 | Thousands of ESL cram schools have emerged in Taiwan as a result of the risingdemand for English skills on the island. But many of these language schools, in the pursuit of quick and easy money, have neglected to select qualified teachers, legalize them,or train them. Many native English speakers from various parts of the world have flockedto Taiwan to take part in the profits, often receiving their pay in cash and getting awaywith paying no taxes. How does a Christian ESL teacher fit into this environment? Whatdoes it mean to be a Christian and an ESL teacher? This paper will examine the rolelanguage schools play in Taiwan society, look to Jesus' example as to which qualities aChristian teacher should strive to possess, and finally, propose how a teacher can workto renew this culture through the vocation of teaching ESL. |
