英文摘要 | Ninety-six 4-week-old weaned pigs (average body weight 6.75kg), half male and half female, were randomly assigned to 4 different diet groups according to their body weight and sex. The 4 diets were supplemented with various levels of iron (Fe) (1) 0, (2) 75, (3) 150, and (4) 450 ppm. The basal diet was formulated with corn and soybean meal, vitamins, and minerals which included 258ppm Cu, 130 ppm Zn, and 66 ppm Fe. The optimal dietary supplementation of Fe and its possible effects on growth performance and immunity in weaned pigs were evaluated. Pigs of each diet group were housed in 6 pens; each pen contained 4 pigs. Pigs were allowed to consumetheir designed diets on an ad libitum basis until 11-week-old of age (average body weight 31 kg). The daily feed consumption of each group was measured and pigs were weighed every other week to calculate the body weight gain and feed efficiency. On weeks 2 and 5, pigs were immunized with sheep erythrocytes (SRBC) and a bacterin of Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia (AP). Blood samples were taken just before immunization and weekly thereafter for the measurement of serum antibody titers to SRBC and AP. On weeks 2, 4, 6, and 7, peripheral blood lymphocytes were collected and concanavalin A (con A)-induced blastogenesis and interleukin 2 (IL-2) production were measured. In addition, pigs received a dose of phytohemagglutinin (PHA) subcutaneously on days 21 and 45 and the size of swelling at each of the injection sites was measured. Result indicated that Fe addition in the ration could significantly (P<0.05) increase daily weight gain and a slightly increase increase feed intake in the group of 75 ppm Fe during the 0-7 week period after being weaned. Mean anti-SRBC at week 6 and anti-AP bacterin antibody titer were reduced in the Fe groups above 150 ppm compared to the based diet group at weeks 4 and 6 (P<0.01). The overall means of anti-SRBC and anti-AP antibody titers throughout the whole experiment, were lower for the groups containing Fe above 150 ppm. No significant differences were observed in PHA-induced skin swelling or Con A-induced lymphoblastogenesis. For the Con A-induced IL-2 production of peripheral blood lymphocytes, pigs with addition the 75 ppm Fe had a significantly higher response than other groups at week 6 and for the whole experiment. The study suggests that the addition of 75 ppm Fe has the potential to enhance growth performance and immunity of pigs above 4 weeks after weaning. |
