英文摘要 | This paper examines the effects of different test types on students' scores. The results of two types of vocabulary tests are compared: one word-definition matching based, the other reading comprehension based. Items provided in the latter are presented within a discourse type. The results will show that when equal amounts of in-class test preparation time are provided for both, students' scores tend to be higher on the less complicated matching test, but when no special preparation of any kind is given, scores level out more and the reverse may occur. It will also be shown that achievement on simple matching tests does not imply overall language proficiency. The two test methods examine the same trait, vocabulary, and will be discussed and compared along with their goals. Various elements that place tests closer to the "real-life domain," as described by Bachman and Palmer, vvdil be discussed as well as the implications they have for language learning. |
