英文摘要 | A dilution error in sampling blood from arterial line was studied. Hematocrits, blood gases, electrolytes and white blood cell counts were measured in 35 critically ill infants which were sampled from arterial catheter tube after withdrawing 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 ml of flush-blood mixture solution. The deadspace volume of this arterial line setting, which consisted of one 24-ga (or 22-ga) cannula, one T-connector and one 3-way stopcock, is 0.5 ml. The results show that all measurements were nearly identical after having removed 2 ml of mixture while the pH was unchanged after 1 ml aspirate. The errors of the initial blood sampling should contribute to the dilution effects of incomplete aspiration of the heparinized flush solution from the tubing. For accurate measurement of blood specimens it is necessary to avoid contamination of flush solution. That can be achieved in each intensive care unit by the setup of a uniform arterial line sampling system and the performance of a similar investigation to determine the exact volume of mixture solution which should be removed before blood sampling. |
