英文摘要 | It is known that genetic demage can be caused by common environmental factors such as alcohol intake, chemotherapeutic agents, radiotherapy and cigarette smoking. Ethanol has manifold effects on nearly every organ system of the body and causes a variety of disabilities in man. Epidemiological studies indicate that alcoholic run a high risk of getting cancer, it seems to have reached alarming proportions in recent years. SCE frequency in human lymphocytes has been used for monitoring human populations for exposure to environmental mutagens. Moreover, an elevation of sister-chromatid exchange frequency has been observed in lymphocytes of alcoholics. However, several groups failure to demonstrate a mutagenic activity of alcohol in cultured animal and human cells. This experiment was designed to answer the question of whether or not long term alcohol drinking causes sister chromatid exchanges in human cells in vitro. Care was taken to exclude alcoholic with a history of major illness, exposure to therapeutic or diagnostic radation, or to any environmental or occupational hazards for the previous year. Control were also selected on the basis of the same criteria. Blood samples from 13 male alcohol dependences and 13 matched controls were analyzed for SCE frequency. Alcohol dependences showed a significant increase sister chromatid exchange frequency (10.12±0.85). Though there was no significant difference age, sex, smoking, coffee and betel mut between the alcohol dependences and control groups. No continual increase in SCE frequency was observed with type and duration of alcohol drinking. |
