英文摘要 | The relationship between librarians and support staffs within academic libraries has been neglected in the literature. The stereotype of the library support staff member is as one whose occupation is not a career but just a nine-to-five job. As librarians strive to achieve faculty status, it is important to realize the vital and growing roles that support staff play in the attainment of their goals. Support staffs are trapped in a bureaucracy where responsibility is assigned only to those at the top of the structure. The objective should be to create an entrepreneurial spirit in the midst of bureaucracy whereby all partake in the responsibilities and risks of the library's activities. To accomplish this, support staff must accept responsibility more eagerly and assume more active roles. Secondly, the library is a team and it needs team players. Working together in support not at the expense of one another is the goal. Lastly, support staff members need to be aware of the issues outside daily activity, for an academic library serves the larger mission of the university. |
