英文摘要 | This study investigated the reactor performance of completely-stirred tank reactor (CSTR) and up-flow anaerobic hydrogen fermentation (UAF) systems seeded with sewage sludge microflora for hydrogen production from molasses. Reactor operating temperature, substrate molasses concentration, and hydraulic retention time were 35±1□, 40 g COD□, and 24 h (CSTR), 4-8 h (UAF), respectively. The conditions for thermal pretreatment of the influent molasses were 60□ for 10 min and 40-70□ for 10-30 min for CSTR and UAF systems, respectively. The experimental results indicate that the thermal pretreatment of the molasses influent is an important strategy to enhance hydrogen production. A pretreatment of the influent molasses markedly enhanced hydrogen production and the stability of reactor operation. The hydrogen production in the non-pretreatment reactor declined from day 40 and markedly deteriorated after 130 d of operation. However, in the thermal pretreatment reactors, stable performances n hydrogen gas contents, oxidation-reduction potential, hydrogen production rate, and effluent solvent concentrations were obtained. The thermal pretreatment reactors exhibited marked increases in hydrogen content and hydrogen production rate of 40 and 35%, respectively, relative to the non-pretreatment reactor. The pretreatment reactor had a hydrogen yield of 40 mmol □□□ and a specific hydrogen production rate of 6 mmol □□ VSS□. This efficiency is comparable to that of using synthetic wastewaters such as sucrose and glucose. Acetate and butyrate were the major metabolites and their distribution factions were not influenced by the pretreatment. |
