英文摘要 | Quoting from Wei Yuan(魏源1794-1865)’s Haiguotuzhi《( 海國圖志》Illustrated Treatise on the Maritime Kingdoms), scholars in the history of Macao journalism hold that Yijingzashuo《( 依涇雜說》The Miscellanea of Yijing) refers to the first Chinese –English journal published in the city. However, evidence suggests that the assumed title of the bilingual journal is a corruption of the word “Yishizashuo” (《依濕雜說》The Miscellanea of Yishi), the original Chinese translation of the title of Aesop’s Fables. Furthermore, Yishizashuo, or Yishimizhuan《( 意拾秘傳》The Secret Accounts of Aesop), came from the title of a four-volume collection (Guangzhou, 1837-1838) by an Englishman Robert Thom(1807—1846) In the year 1840, the second edition of the collection was released in Macao with an alternative title of Yishiyuyan (《意拾喻言》Aesop’s Fables). |
