英文摘要 | In order to assist English-as-a-second-language (ESL) learners with English literacy-learning, multimodal literacy-learning was facilitated through the use of visual picture and verbal speech modes. It was found that a visual picture mode allowed children to apply diversified meanings to a picture. However, the diversified meanings created just stayed in children’s minds. On the other hand, the integration of visual picture mode with verbal speech mode allowed the flow of children’s created meanings. Negotiated meanings first took place on an interpsychological plane among children and teacher, and shared meanings might have eventually occurred on each participant’s intrapsychological plane. The integration of visual picture mode with verbal speech mode helps the ESL learners negotiate with others the diversified meanings they applied to the picture, contributing to better understanding of pictorial meanings. |
