英文摘要 | Objective: Literature regarding tongue lesions is relatively sparse, and little is known about the exact spectrum and incidence of lingual lesions within the pediatric population. The aim of the present study was to investigate the spectrum and incidence of tongue lesions in children and adolescents. Materials and methods: A retrospective review of all tongue lesions biopsied at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital was undertaken over a 14-year period. Only cases diagnosed in patients less than 20 years of age are included in this current study. The medical records were reviewed and an analysis was performed based on lesion types, gender, and age. Results: A total of 215 tongue lesions were identified. Mucoceles were the most common lesions observed (33.5%), followed by hemangioma (12.6%), and then squamous hyperplasia (7.9%). These lesions were found in 114 males and in 101 females, giving a male-to-female ratio of 1:0.89. The ages of the subjects ranged from 1 month to 19 years 11 months, with mean age 10.9±5.5 years. Conclusion: Most of the tongue lesions in children and adolescents were inflammatory/reactive in nature, and the majority were benign. An equal predilection for both sexes was demonstrated. These lesions in general were likely to occur at any age while inflammatory or reactive lesions were less commonly encountered under the age of 5. |
