英文摘要 | Acute kidney injury is a common problem in clinical practice with high morbidity and mortality rates but limited alternatives for its treatment. The pathophysiology of ischemic and toxic forms of acute kidney injury is complex and includes tubular and vascular cell damage and inflammation. Stem cell-based therapy is an emerging strategy and may open a new window for the treatment of acute kidney injury. Many efforts are being devoted to applying regenerative medicine to acute kidney injury using several types of stem cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, renal stem cells, embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. This review summarizes the progress that has been made to date, discusses the potential mechanisms involved, and investigates some of the obstacles to stem cell-based therapy. The mechanism for kidney repair involves the recruitment of stem cells and soluble reparative factors to the injured kidney to elicit tissue repair and the induction of resident renal cells. Key receptors involved in homing, engraftment and survival of stem cells at the sites of injury are also elucidated. Some of the clinical trials are underway and might shed light on the application of stem cells to treatment of acute kidney injury in the future. |
