英文摘要 | The bone level around implant has been used as one of the assessment for evaluating the success of dental implants. For a long-term stability of implants, it is important to maintain the peri-implant bone height. The concept of platform switching is relatively new, and many clinical studies confirmed the platform switching technique was effective in preserving crestal bone levels. To explain the finding, the concept of platform switching was analyzed histologically and biomechanically, including the influence of biologic width, the infiltration of the inflammatory cells at the implant-abutment junction (IAJ), and the change in stress distribution pattern due to different implant designs. This article is going to review these different theories of platform switching concepts and the influences in peri-implant tissues. |
