英文摘要 | The three selected texts are written in the fifties in the German context (The fat kid) and in the seventies in the American context (Fat, The fat girl) respectively. They have two features in common: the attribute "fat" in the title and the negative representation of the obese body in the context. This project aims at exploring the meanings of the obese body, the power relation and "body-for-others" applying Bourdieu's habitus-theory (1984). The body as a form of physical capital elucidates not only various significance of habitus, but also uncovers a power relation to be practiced with social capital, which is initiated through the gaze of the other as a self-reflection. This explains the "body-for-others", in terms of which the body-image is determined by the habitus, the homogeneity of a culture. |
