英文摘要 | BACKGROUND: Obesity has become more common in current society and it was reported to be related to the occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). To our knowledge, the prevalence of OSA in morbidly obese Asians is poorly documented. The aim of our study was to investigate it in the Asian bariatric population. Furthermore, we tried to identify clinical predictors of OSA for bariatric patients.METHODS: This single-center study conducted from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012. Eighty one morbid obese subjects preparing for bariatric surgery were enrolled. All participants completed a series of examinations for the diagnosis of OSA before the surgery. Objective assessments included overnight polysomnography (PSG) and the other demographic data. Subjective assessments used questionnaires (Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Snore Outcomes Survey and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index).RESULTS: The subjects were 81 obese subjects (34 men and 47 women). The mean body mass index (BMI) was 43.0 kg/m^2 (SD = 7.7). The data of the PSG showed that the average AHI was 26.0 time/hour (SD = 83.2), the average O2 saturation was 94.2% (SD = 3.7), the lowest O2 saturation was 74.7% (SD = 12.8) and the snore index was 253.3 time/hour (SD = 268.1). The overall prevalence of OSA was 86.4% (70/81). The severities of OSA were significant with male predominant and older (p < 0.05).CONCLUSIONS: OSA is highly prevalent in bariatric patients. Sex and age were the predictors of OSA severity. |
