英文摘要 | Objectives: The goals of this project were to protect patients with permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation from wound infection, promote quality service, and reduce cost. The wound infection rate had increased from 6.7% in 2009 to 24.0% in 2010. In order to reach the goal, the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle was implemented.Method: The nursing records of 151 patients with PPM implantation in the cardiac catheterization laboratory of a northern medical center were reviewed; the period was from the first quarter of 2010 through the third quarter of 2011.Results: Application of the PDCA cycle reduced the infection rate from 24% to 0%.Conclusions: This project demonstrated that the PDCA cycle was an effective way to reduce the infection rate. We suggest that this cycle may be helpful to other units for improving the quality of service. |
