英文摘要 | Hand washing is the most effective and simplest prevention method of nosocomial infections. Under actual observation, handwashing compliance rate was found to be only 37.5% among our surgical intensive care unit nursing staff. Therefore, a specialized team was created. Possible causes for low hand washing compliance rate were: inadequate education, insufficient hand washing equipments, a lack of reminding mechanism and skin irritation. After literature review, we came up with a standard hand washing indication video, set up an auto-induction pronunciation prompt system, implemented hand washing manufacture posts, provided gentle moisturizers, increased hand washing equipments, created a hand washing standard and established a monitoring mechanism. Nurses' knowledge of hand washing increased significantly from 79.38 to 98.13, and nurses' hand washing compliance rate increased significantly from 37.5% to 81.3% after the project was conducted. This project not only improved nurses' compliance in hand washing but also provided a safer environment to patients. |
