英文摘要 | Patient safety is the key component of physical therapy practice. Few articles have been published on this issue comprehensively. 1n order to ensure patient safety in physical therapy departments in hospital setting, a joint task force on patient safety guidelines was commissioned by Taiwan Hospital Association which in charged one of the safety projects of the Department of Health (ROC) in 2009. The framework of the guidelines was based on the patient/client management model proposed by the American Physical Therapy Association. The guidelines followed the 1nternational Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health and national health policies. The best available evidence was adopted according to evidence-based practice. The guidelines contain seven chapters, which are general introduction, acute care physical therapy, musculoskeletal physical therapy, neurological and geriatric physical therapy, pediatric physical therapy, pulmonary and cardiovascular physical therapy, and physical agents and modalities. The document has been reviewed, used in monitoring trials, and revised in order to make sure the applicability and practicability before final approval. We hope that the patient safety guidelines will work along with the national annual patient safety goals and voluntary reporting system to create a safety culture and establish a safer physical therapy service system. It is understandable that the guidelines could not cover the whole scope of physical therapy practice in the present version due to limiting resources. Modifications and suggestions are needed in the near future to optimize the content. |
