英文摘要 | Purpose: This program aimed to explore whether the anxiety of public health noses during their home visits to psychiatric patients can be mitigated by their accompaniment by healthcare volunteers. It also attempted to find out the degree of acceptance of such accompaniment among psychiatric patients and their family members. Method: Using self-developed structured questionnaires, the research methodologies used in this program included: (1) Pre-experimental design with one-group pre- and post-test to measure the degree of anxiety of public health nurses before and after their home visits. (2) Cross-sectional study to collect from 89 psychiatric cases survey data regarding the accompaniment of public health nurses’ by healthcare volunteers during home visits throughout the period November 2006 to February 2007. Results: showed that: (1) with the accompaniment of healthcare volunteers, there were significant reductions in the degree of anxiety felt by public health nurses about verbal offence, physical attack and sexual harassment during their home visits (z = -2.24, p<.05). (2) over 80% of the psychiatric patients and their family members agreed to continue to be visited and served by healthcare volunteers. (3) The number of psychiatric patients who agreed with the proposition that, “Having healthcare volunteers in attendance during public health nurses’ home vists could increase patients; willingness to take medicine or accept hospitalization,” was significantly higher than that of family members (t=2.70, p<.01). Future study: Overall, the degree of anxiety experienced by public nurses could be reduced by their accompaniment by healthcare volunteers. Their accompaniment by healthcare volunteers was also widely accepted by the psychiatric patients and their family members. It is recommended that the program be continued and expanded. |
