英文摘要 | The “vulnerability” of God has become an important topic of theological research in recent years. This vulnerability points to a concept of God different from a more traditional one, namely the impassibility of God. This paper aims to demonstrate the Jude 10:6-16 presents a vulnerable God who cares about the welfare of the Israelites, even though they betray him again and again. First, Judg 10:6-16 shares a similar narrative structure with 2:11-19 and 3:7-11, representing Deuteronomistic style. Second, the narrative flow of Judg 10:6-16 is very particular within the structure of Book of the Judges. On the one hand, the text emphasizes the repentance of the Israelites: they repent from serving foreign gods (10:6) and turn to serve Yahweh (10:16a). On the other hand, it articulates God’s struggles: he is torn between refusing to save the Israelites (10:13-14) or having mercy on them (10:16b). The important key phrase here is in 10:16b, which renders “God’s life became short (qcu nepe□) for the suffering of Israel” to describe the mercy of God. The Struggle between his anger and mercy illustrates a characteristic of God’s vulnerability. In concluding this paper, the author seeks to identify meanings of Judg 10:6-16 which are relevant for today. The concept of a vulnerable God is a remarkable one, which bestows some insights for theological reflection today. |
