英文摘要 | Most of foodstuff, some 73% of rubber, 95% of offee and more than 50% of palm oil in Indonesia are produced by small holders. Productivity under small holders' conditions is low due to low soil fertility and low level of soil management. Application of, for example 45kg Nha□, 90kg Pha□, and 60kg K ha□ on acid upland Oxisols in Sumatra, increased rice yield from 0.5 to 1.5 Mg ha□. Liming on top of N, P, and K application, increased rice yield to 2.5Mg ha□. Despite the convincing effects, this level of farm inputs are not affordable by most farmers. Thus the use of organic matter is suggested to alleviate fertilizer application. Acid-tolerant perennial trees such as rubber (Havea brasiliensis) have been proven to be sustainable under low or even zero chemical input. Rubber yield under small holder condition, however, is only about 0.6 Mg ha□ annually compared to 1.3 Mg ha□ under government estates because of better quality planting materials and fertilization use in the latter. Regardless of small holders' choice to shift from shifting cultivation to permanent agriculture they still seem to be dependent on subsidies. |
