英文摘要 | The assumption of hysteretic damping behavior for soils is widely accepted when performing the ground response analysis. However, the damping ratio of soils can be determined in laboratory using either resonant mode (viscous damping) or low-frequency cyclic mode (hysteretic damping), which result in different values of damping. The objective of this research is to study the effects of frequency variation on the damping behavior of soils. Torsional shear tests are performed on the Ottawa sand and kaolinite specimens with frequency ranging from 1Hz to the resonant frequency. The damping behavior of both soils is studied. The single-degree-of-freedom system is used for interpretation of the testing results considering the inertia effects. It is found that the damping of soil increases with increasing frequency up to a frequency ratio of 0.6 and then decreases again. |
