英文摘要 | This paper raises question's about the significance of choreographic changes when Indigenous dance forms are removed from their traditional contexts. I critically examine the related concepts of ‘authenticity', ‘authority' and ‘authorship' in relation to dynamically embodied knowledge, offering ‘legitimizing processes' as an alternative to both ‘strategic essentialism' and ‘discourses of authenticity'. Concepts from recent work in North American Indigenous Studies are applied to the particular experiences of a Northern Plains Men's traditional dancer who performed with the American Indian Dance Theater (AIDT) company in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The ethnographic data and analysis, grounded in Williams's ‘semasiology' within sociocultural anthropology, focus on the semantics of personhood, space and time, and the impact of the experience on the performer. |
