英文摘要 | To present different types of media data in a distributed multimedia system requires a proper synchronization mechanism, which coordinates the ordering of media and assures the real-time characteristics of media presentation. We propose such a synchronization mechanism using a timing constraint on the data unit based on the production schedule and playout deadline schedule. We also propose a two-layer buffer scheme to compensate for the uncertainty of network communication. This scheme provides a more smooth effect of multimedia presentation. In order to eliminate the inefficient acknowledgement of window flow control, a rate based flow control serves as a flow control mechanism in our transmission scheme. A RTP (Rate Training Process) is used to train closing the interpacket transmission gap between any sender and receiver pair. A multimedia presentation is started by issuing a 'go' command. For a reliable transmission, a three-way handshake protocol is employed to transmit the 'go' command. Due to the fact that environment changes may lead to a state of inefficient transmission of multimedia data, a feedback mechanism is used in our synchronization scheme to adjust the parameters of multimedia presentation accordingly. We also implement a multimedia presentation application based on our synchronization mechanism. The result shows that this proposed mechanism can really achieve a lipsynching presentation and can be applied to various multimedia information systems. |
