英文摘要 | An animal study was designed to investigate the correlation between blood pH value or base deficit and injury severity in an attempt to understand whether these parameters contribute to patient selection for emergency surgery. Fifteen sus domesticus pigs were fed with hydrochloric acid (16%) in amounts ranged from 2 ml to 8 ml/kg, through nasogastric tube into the stomach. Blood gas analysis were done every hour before the animals' deaths and up to four hours at most after unjury. Injury extent and severity of each experimental animal were carefully autopsied. Injury severity scores of all these animals varied from 3 to 39 with an average of 17.5, depending upon the ingested amount of hydrochloric acid. Seven of the 15 animals had gastric perforation, with an average gradient of pH value 0.238 and base deficit 16, respectively. Results indicated that changes of blood pH and base deficit significantly correlate with the acid corrosive injury severity (p=0.046, 0.036 respectively). These findings offered some reference points useful in the management of acid corrosive injuries. |
