英文摘要 | Some critics have pointed out the ideal escape of Romanticism into the Grecian culture in Keats' “Ode on a Grecian Urn” . In addition, some observe that Keats is aware of the duty to see the real - the woe of the world. To me, I see Keats' “Ode on a Grecian Urn” as a nostalgic longing for a place of ‘origin’. However, nostalgia is a paradoxical project as it only has ideological reality and exists in the form of a felt lack. No wonder after the happy pastoral scenes of the pipers and lovers on one side of the urn, Keats sees sacrifice, death and desolation on the other side of the urn. This paper endeavors to explore Keat's psychological process of conscious nostalgia and reconciliation with the present “woe”. He finally interprets the message from the urn to be that “Beauty is truth, truth beauty”. The urn says to this living generation that so long as one enjoys art, one is in possession of truth. Nevertheless, this famous line is reminiscent of Greek culture. It is paradoxical that Keats just reconciles himself to the reality of the present woe, and yet he is settled into the ideal Platonism once again. Maybe the frenzy quest for Greekness in the nineteenth-century England has something to do with it. Keats cannot help but is tangled in the nostalgic grip of societal zeal for the Grecian culture. |
