英文摘要 | Diseased lung tissue has a different mechanical elasticity profile to that of normal tissue. An increase in density of the tissue is usually associated with such conditions as carcinoma or other remodelling disease such as fibrosing aveolitis [1]. We would expect then that the eigensystem of this different density resonating mass would change the overall mechanical shock response of the thoracic system. With an increase in fluid content and increase in the nonlinearity of the damping term we would expect a change in the harmonic content. Spectral surface analysis of the time series impulse response to a mechanical excitation shows such a change in the harmonic content. From a trial of sixty patterns with various disorders we concentrate on subset of conditions and present findings in relation to the spectral surface characteristics. This technique may have use in the mass screening for Tuberculosis, a problem of major growing concern, since the discovery of drug resistant strains which are of particular concern to developing regions of Asia with large rural population [2,3]. This work represents initial field trials for this potentially useful medical diagnosis technique for mass screening purposes. We conclude that there is a clear change in the signature produced by diseased lung tissue, and that percussion of the sternum manubrium may be a practical mass screening technique. |
