英文摘要 | Peopling of the Americas has been one major research topic in anthropology. In this article, we reviewed recently published genetic data and results to attempt to obtain a clear picture of the peopling of the Americas from the genetic perspective. Although more detailed genetic variation among Native Americans can be revealed from these recent data, a definite and clear picture of the peopling still cannot be obtained at this stage. The present genetic data suggest the ancestors of central Siberians might be possible founding populations for Native Americans. The "three waves of migration" hypothesis might be valid but other ones such as one wave, two waves and four waves of migration could not be excluded. We believe that with more genetic data accumulated from modern and ancient Native American populations and other human populations, one should be able to better understand the peopling of the Americas through genetic analyses. Toward this aim, ancient DNA studies should play a critical role due to its unique perspective. |
