中文摘要 | 本文旨在探討淵源自唐末、歷經宋代,至明清乃臻於極盛的「人生如戲」的觀念 與佛教之間的互動關係,就歷代禪宗大師興戲劇此一藝術形式交融互攝的過程加以分析。發 現從六朝的漢譯佛典開始,已經蘊含了此一思想的線索,唐宋以後,一方面由於戲劇的興盛 ,一方面由於禪宗的流行。禪宗祖師紛紛以戲劇為例,借以說明自身的思想體系。明末清初 之際,則是此一思想發展的最高峰。當時有鄒迪光的〈觀演劇說〉,就「人生如戲」說加以 充分發揮,又有覺浪道盛從禪宗的學理來說明戲劇與禪理的本質相通。可以說是禪宗美學與 人生觀具體的結合與展現。本文主要以佛典與禪宗語錄為主要分析的對象,因為禪宗的語錄 中言及當時思潮興藝術形式互動關係的資料至為豐富,可惜往往未為研究者所注意。然後發 現戲劇在禪學體系中是一個重要的比喻,而且有基本的意涵,歷代高僧對此多所發揮。不僅 如此,在大藏經中也可以發現某些高僧對戲劇實際演出效果造諧極深。若持此再與當時理學 思潮相對照,可以發現禪宗高僧比理學家對戲劇的態度更為開放興積極,重新提醒我們佛教 與中國文化的密切互動關係,不僅止於因果報應或「以禪喻詩」而已,同時也表現在人生觀 與價值觀的融攝之上。 |
英文摘要 | This article attempts to illuminate the development of the conceptthat life is similar to drama, and to analyze its interaction with Buddhist thought, especially that of the Ch'an school( 禪宗 ). Although many studies have been done on the connection between life and literature, they mostly focus on poetry or the theme of karmic retribution in novels. In this paper, I would like to emphasize that traditional Chinese values are deeply rooted in Buddhism. For example, we can find the beginnings of the "life as drama" concept in an early Chinese translation of Mahayana Buddhist sutras. From the late Tang dynasty through the Song, the masters of the Ch'an school used the medium of drama to explain their philosophical system, a practice that reached its full flowering during the late Ming and early Qing. Of course the influence of the "life as drama" concept corresponded to the flourishing of the theater. The masters of the Ch'an school were quite interested in this new art form,and made comments on dram a which were similar to those of professional drama composers. Moreover, upon comparison with the comments of Confucians on drama, we find that the Ch'an masters adopted the new art form more enthusiastically than the common Confucians, with the exception of Wang Yangming (王陽明 ). This phenomenon gives evidence to the inseparable connection between the Ch'an school and the arts. |
