英文摘要 | MELAS (mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes), a form of mitochondrial disorder, may present as recurrent stroke-like episodes, seizures, myopathy, and optic atrophy. Reports of technitium-99m-ethylene cysteine dimer (99mTc-ECD) brain single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) studies in patients with MELAS are rare. We described a 45-year-old female diagnosed with MELAS by genetic examinations. She had clinical symptoms of left hemi-paresis during an acute stroke-like episode, and her 99mTc-ECD brain SPECT showed multiple perfusion defects in the right cerebral cortex and ipsilateral cerebellar hemisphere on the initial images. These defects had partial reperfusion on the follow-up images performed after minimal aerobic exercise training with treadmill and stationary bicycle, and practice of activities of daily living (ADL) for 10 months. |
