| 英文摘要 | The field of biomechanics applies the laws of physics and engineering to biological systems to enhance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms, causes and consequences of system's activities (i.e. motion, internal and external loading, remodeling, degeneration, adaptive responses to mechanical environment, and etc.). The literature on the decline of physical functional capacities causes by aging has been confounded by accompanying diseases and disorders that are prevalent in the aging population in the earlier studies of gerontology. The pessimistic outlook for the aging population has been replaced with much enthusiasm for ensuring a longer and better quality of life. The purpose of this note is to introduce some basic concepts of biomechanics that could enlighten us about the mechanisms of hip and vertebral fractures that accompanies osteoporosis. This intent is to develop a number of tools that can assist one in evaluation and selection of alternative prevention strategies to combat the osteoporosis and the disabilities caused by the aforementioned fractures. |
