英文摘要 | Streaming multimedia contents over an inter-connected network is a well-known distributing strategy that a client computer buffers and playbacks some leading parts while receiving a server sending rest of materials. It requires a steady and robust technology to ensure it playback performance in a client computer. There are now a number of commercially available products in the market. How to choose among these products with respect to the facilities that can distribute contents within certain performance is a critical issue for the network administration. This paper reviews some streaming server products and reports an experience of setting up a multicast server in a campus network. Six infrastructures of streaming have been identified each of which is classified by the number of servers, clients and it's routing. On of the major challenging tasks with these available streaming infrastructures is how to break the limitation of an available network bandwidth. This paper, therefore, precisely looks into such issue in order to find the most applicable product for the purpose of constructing streaming servers. An implementation of using Microsoft Streaming Technology is given as an example of evaluation. We have found that the choice of any particular streaming product is vastly dependent upon whether a network is built with suitable plan and budget in advance. It is not easy to conclude and choose among any available products without a thorough understanding of a network's bandwidth and communicating technologies. For those who wish to construct a streaming server, this paper has done the fist part of pilot work and shed light on the multicasting multimedia material issues. |
