英文摘要 | Sintering behaviour of high purity hydroxyapatite in the presence of up to 1 wt% MnO�� as an additive was investigated in the temperature range of 9000℃-1400℃. X-Ray diffraction analysis of the samples sintered up to temperature 1250℃ revealed the presence of HA phase alone irrespective of the dopant concentration. Decomposition of HA began at about 1300 ℃ and became more prominent as the sintering temperature increased, resulting in the formation of calcium oxide, tricalcium phosphate and tetracalcium phosphate. Samples containing 0.05 wt% MnO�� exhibited density > 99% of theoretical, compared to 95% for the undoped samples when sintered at 1000℃. The hardness value of the 0.05 wt% MnO��-doped sample was higher than the undoped material sintered up to 1100℃. On the other hand, higher (> 0.05 wt%) amounts of MnO�� proved to be detrimental as they resulted in lower bulk density and inferior hardness values for samples sintered in the above temperature profile. |
