英文摘要 | Researchers who run psychological experiments requiring accurate timing in a Windows95/98 operating system should be concerned with the accuracy of response timing, the accuracy of stimulus presentation time, the speed of clearing the keyboard buffer, and the quality of auditory stimulus presentation. Problems in these areas are because of the multi-tasking properties of the Windows operating system that do not allow direct access of the peripheral I/O. We used the Visual Basic programming language and the API function of Windows95/98 to program a visual detection experiment using the rapid serial visual presentation paradigm. The code does not depend on specific device drivers in order to circumvent. We provide a timing accuracy measurement criterion and the programming code used in the experiment. Our test results indicate the millisecond timing is possible in Windows95/98, the accuracy of response timing is within 2 to 4 milliseconds, and that the accuracy of presentation time depends on the vertical retrace rate of the monitor and display card. |
