英文摘要 | The purpose of this study is to analyze the pain reaction of patients with cervical cancer treated with intracavitary brachytherapy. A comparison was made between Demerol injected intramuscularly alone and combined with local use of 2 % Xylocaine Jelly over the uterine cervix and vagina. One sample of time series was used for this study on fifty patients. In this experiment, each patient had to receive a complete brachytherapy treatment. The brachytherapy treatment was divided into two groups: a first and a second. The first group was treated only with intramuscularly injected Demerol. The second group received both Demerol and 2 % Xylocaine Jelly. The intensity of pain was measured and one hundred samples (two samples on each patient) were taken. The results showed that significant differences were found in pain relief between the two groups. The patients who received Xylocaine Jelly experienced much less pain. Different parts of the body experienced different intensity of pain. Patients felt the most intense pain at the perineum either with or without Xylocaine Jelly. Most of the pain appeared as soreness; pressure was the second most common. |
