中文摘要 | IETF MPLS技術希望將目前各種交換式路由器技術(如Cisco Tag Switching、IBM ARIS、Toshiba CSR…)的優點兼容並蓄,以提供更具彈性、擴充性以及效率更高的一種IP 交換技術。一個MPLS網路是由LSR所組成的。其中,LSR的功能與傳統路由器(Router)的 功能相同;但是LSR可以執行所謂的LDP以取代複雜的ATM signalling通信規約。MPLS 技術的基本概念在於引用與ATM Switching等技術類似之標頭(Label)概念。當MPLS網路內 部的一個LSR收到一個封包時,該LSR可依據封包的Label值、而非其IP Header的內容來 轉送該封包。如此一來,MPLS技術可以提昇整個網路之運作效率。本文即針對MPLS技 術之原理做一介紹,並分析其優缺點。此外,本文也將簡短扼要地描述目前交換研究室所研 發ATM-Based LSR之概況。 |
英文摘要 | Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) is designed to integrate most of the current proposals (Cisco Tag Swithing, IBM ARIS, Toshiba CSR…) such that it is more flexible, scalable, and efficient. An MPLS network is composed of Label Switching Router (LSR). An LSR works as a router, and is able to execute so-called Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) which is to replace the complex ATM signalling protocol. The basic idea behind MPLS is to indroduce a "label" of short and fixed length. A "label" is similar to the VPI/VCI in ATM Switching. Whenever an interior LSR receives an IP packet, it forwards this packet based on the "label" instead of the longer network layer (layer 3) header. As a result, MPLS technology can make the operation of network more efficient. This paper gives an introduction of the MPLS technology and explore what the drawbacks and benefits are. Moreover, this paper also briefly describes the current effort of Switching Lab. To develop an ATM-based LSR. |
