| 英文摘要 | Language teaching takes place in a context that includes societal, educational, instructional and individual factors. These factors determine the policies and goals established for second and foreign languages learning. The goals are implemented in terms of objectives, syllabuses, and teaching procedures; and the learning outcomes will be different by the particular methodological options or instructional systems. As English teachers, finding efficient ways of teaching is always a concern of us. In hope doing so, our personal approach stresses that teaching should be viewed from a broad perspective, and that successful language teaching depends on the coordination of many interrelated elements. Therefore, this paper will be divided into three major sections. In the first section we will discuss the main philosophy of second language acquisition from different viewpoints that influence our personal approach. In the second section, we will mention applications of the beliefs to the teaching of the four skills, giving some examples from evaluating previous EFL learning and teaching experiences. In the final section, we will discuss the importance of incorporating cultural aspects in language teaching and learning. The setting is teaching English at Junior College in Taiwan, which is a monolingual and EFL situation. English is taught as one of the required subjects. There are forty-five to fifty students in a class. |
