英文摘要 | Commercially pure titanium and titanium alloy have been increasingly used in crowns and fixed partial dentures since 1980s because of titanium's excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, light weight and desirable physical and mechanical properties. Two different techniques have been developed to make crown and bridges. One method involves a conventional lost-wax technique and uses an argon-arc casting design, the other method celled Procera system, is composed of a copy-milling process and a spark-erosion technique. At present, the casting method is the dominant one which manutactures crowns and bridges produced by titanium. The procera system is not popular in dental markets. However, the results of high ceramic failure rates in ceramic-veneered tititanium restoration are noted compared to the results of other combinations of conventional metal alloys and ceramics. Actually some problems in the field of metalceramics of titanium restorations have not yet been completely solved. To sum up, the application of titanium to fixed prostheses is still in the developmental stages. It seems that titanium cannot substitute the conventional dental alloys now. More efforts are needed in long-term clinical follow-up which can also determine whether the Ti-ceramic bond is strong enough for use in prosthetic dentistry. |
