英文摘要 | The Agronomy Farm of Chihu Sugar Factory has generally favorable conditions, but its calcareous slate alluvial soil is not very suitable for gladiolus growth. The objectives of this study were to investigate which soil parameters stunted gladiolus growth, and to understand how changing those parameters could modify the soil to enhance gladiolus growth. The results showed that the germination of cormels was suppressed when soil pH was higher than 7.80. The growth of gladiolus was stunted when EC was higher than 2.0 dS m□ ,or/and Cl□ was higher than 110 mg L□ in the soil saturation extract. The extent of damage caused by salt varied with the gladiolus variety and corm size sowed. If the size of corm sowed was larger, the salt tolerance of growing gladiolus was higher. Cormels were highly sensitive to salt. The salt tolerance of gladiolus was in the sequence of Fidelio > Wig's Sensation Carqueiranne. Application of a high amount of swine manure could decrease the soil pH and increase the yields of corms and cormels. Continuous application of swine lagoon effluent increased organic matter content, total P, and soluble P concentrations in the soil. No organic manure amendment is needed; and application of P fertilizer could be reduced by 50-100 kg ha□ in P□ O□ for growing the gladiolus in fields with long-term application of swine lagoon effluent. With successive 20 mm depth irrigation once a week over a six-month growth period, salt accumulation occurred on the top of planting beds. |
