英文摘要 | The auteur theory regards the director who has a distinct personal vision as the true author of a film. Basically, it is an honorific term to a film director. "Robert Flaherty as Auteur," the title I have chosen, then greatly represents my personal respect for Mr. Robert Flaherty (U. S, 1884-1951), the father of the documentary. Flaherty was truly a leader and a creator in his own right. Having created a film career out of life experiences, he paved a path for others to follow as opposed to having studied and following the methods of his predecessors. Beginning with a discussion of the "auteur theory," this paper later will examine the auteur Flaherty via the following steps: (1) Biographical background; (2) His approach to filmmaking; (3) The style of his work; (4) Major themes in his films; (5) Conclusion. |
