As for English, Old English is the earliest language on the Island of England that we have definite knowledge about. In order to know Old English more clearly, we also have o be familiar with its society, and medicine, without doubt, is an important aspect of life. In this paper, we will analyze the interrelationship between the development of Old English medical vocabulary and that of Anglo-Saxon social context. In addition to a rough introduction of the development of the Anglo-Saxon medical vocabulary, some examples in chronicles and leech books will be discussed to present the old and distinct English society. |
