英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive control in science reading between gifted and average elementary school students. The subjects were 24 gifted and 24 average fifth grade students selected from an elementary school in Taiwan, Taiwan, R.O.C. A metacognitive knowledge test and a science reading comprehension test were administered. Two interviews were conducted for each subject to describe his/her reading comprehension processes before and after the reading session. The subject's responses in the reading session as well as the interview sessions were videotaped and transcribed into verbatim protocols. The transcribed protocols were analyzed by the researcher based on a metacognitive control behavior coding system. The main findings were as follows: 1.Gifted students had significantly higher science reading comprehension scores than average students. 2.There was no significant difference in reading speed between gifted and average students. 3.There was no significant difference in metacognitive knowledge for science reading between gifted and average students. 4.Gifted students quantitatively and qualitatively outperformed average students in metacognitive control for science reading. |
