| 英文摘要 | The PCM systems recommended by ITU-T are based on digitally linearizable companding quantization which are referred to as the μ -Law and the A-Law encoding. The companding characteristics in these PCM systems are piecewise linear approximations to μ -Law and A-Law characteristics. In these piecewise linear systems, the number and step of quantization are constant quantities within each linear segment. The standard values of μ =255 and A=87.6 are designed to provide a good approximation to respective piecewise characteristics for 8 bits/sample encoder. This article attempts to analyze the effect of cascaded multiple μ -Law and A-Law conversions to signal distortion in the digital transmission. |
