中文摘要 | 錄影帶教學具有多樣化,深受學生喜愛,亦是學習語言最佳輔助工具。本文從Paivio學習語言心理轉換過程理論,試探空軍官校與陸軍官校學生如何獲致語言習得以及那種輔助錄影帶較具效果。本樣本共167位學生參與此實驗;再以三種不同模式:(1)英文發音,中文字幕(2)英文發音,英文字幕(3)中文發音,英文字幕,來探求學生學習之類型。 依據Paivio理語符號理論,學生較能詮釋文字和影像同步進行;此實驗證明對於高分組學生較適合英文發音,英文字幕(EDE),低分組學生較適合中文發音,英文字幕(CDE),才真正幫助其語言習得。本研究希望能提供教師們採用教材能循序漸進,瞭解學生需求,如此才能提高教學之效果。 |
英文摘要 | The purpose of this study is to investigate how language learners form mental representation in a video program with containing Chinese dialogues with English captions (CDE), English dialogues with English captions (EDE), and English dialogues with Chinese captions (EDC). In the first experiment of testing listening comprehension, 142 participants viewed three different videos with three different presentation modes. Using their level of language proficiency as a dependent variable, one-way ANOVA showed that, differently captioned videos affected language learning. For example, lower intermediate students benefited most form the videos containing Chinese dialogues with English captions, and upper intermediate students outperformed on the videos containing English dialogues with English captions. Although learning outcomes did not uniformly reflected any positive results in favor of a single presentation mode, some explanations were given to the factors likely to effect access in the cognitive process. In the second experiment of testing vocabulary production on beginners, dual processing in the CDE and EDE input modes slightly surpassed the EDC. The conclusion echoes Paivio's (1986) dual coding theory in which students are capable to process mental representations if provided simultaneously verbal and imagery inputs no matter whether they are of lower or higher language proficiency. This study concludes that a further in-depth study involving longitudinal exposure and various genres is of great importance. |
