英文摘要 | Amis, one of the Austronesian languages, is spoken by the largest aboriginalminority on the island of Taiwan. The population is now estimated to be 130,000. TheAmis language is spoken in Hualien, Taitung and a small area in Pingtung. The presentpaper has examined the grammatical manifestation of participants in Amis: nouns andthe preceding case markers, and pronouns. Amis makes distinction between propernouns and common nouns, which need to be preceded by different sets of case markersin a sentence, respectively. The case markers for proper nouns can be further classifiedin terms of number. There are three sets of case markers in the language: Nominative,Genitive and Locative (or Accusative). The pronominal system can be categorized intopersonal, demonstrative and interrogative pronouns. While the last two haveNominative, Genitive and Locative forms, the personal pronouns have four sets:Nominative, Genitive, Locative and Possessive. The paper has also discussed the orderof these nouns and pronouns in a sentence. In addition, it has presented how the casemarkers are related to the case markings on the pronominal forms. Moreover, it hasshown some similarities and differences between the two systems in Amis and those inother Formosan languages. |
