英文摘要 | This study uses a physical model experiment to evaluate the population stereotypes and the preferred arrangement for the control/display relationship of the four-bourner stove. A total of 30 male subjects carried out trials on the wooden physical model of a four-burner stove and their reaction times and error rates were measured. The results revel that the Type V (BACD) is the preferred arrangement for the Chinese subjects, which is different from the Type II(ABDC) preferred by the American subjects. In addition, this result isn't in agreement with the finding of Hsu and Peng's (1993) study. In gneral, this study verified that both the paper-pencil test and the computer simulation research methods are not equivalent to the physical model experiment, and it is probably best to use the actual performance of a physical model to investigate the compatibility or population stereotypes of controls and displays. |
