英文摘要 | The youth travel has been recently recognized as an important segment of international tourism. In Australia, the first country to promote backpacking as an unique niche market, it counts for 30% of inbound visitors and yearly contributes 5,700 million Australian dollars to national foreign exchange gains. Correspondingly, the National Youth Commission (NYC) has been aggressively promoting Taiwan as the tour destination for international youth and students. However, the economic effects of youth travel in Taiwan have not yet been investigated. This study tries to provide greater understandings of which and how the sectors being affected by youth travel in Taiwan. To support an estimation employing "Input and Output Relations in the Economic System", the authors employ interviews and questionnaire to gather filed data about: 1) youth travelers' activities participation as well expenditures; 2) business operations of their serving sectors. Based on authors' calculations, youth travel expenditure is estimated to be 28,067 million NTD which leads to 45,819 million NTD of domestic production value. The most benefited sectors are identified as the food and beverage services, accommodation services and food manufacturing. It concludes that international youth expenditure is more likely to benefit different sectors other than international tourists, given that travelers in this market segment are more inclined to travel off the beaten track and, therefore, to spend in non-tourist areas. |
