英文摘要 | The purpose of this research is to investigate the attributes of the cycling activity, the benefits of cycling for participants, and values fulfilled by cycling. Study design adopted qualitative interviews to collect data and questionnaire survey. Interviewees came from bike shops (14), bike clubs (10), cycling participants (5), and a leisure scholar (1). In total, the sample had 30 interviewees with 26 males and 4 females. An interview method of laddering with a semi-structured interview guideline was used. Interview questions included: the reasons why the participants began to do cycling; which benefits were derived from cycling; which values were fulfilled by the benefits and which needs were satisfied by cycling. The results showed that the most frequently mentioned attribute of cycling was "opportunities to do exercise." The most frequently mentioned consequence of cycling was "health." The most mentioned value associated with cycling was "sense of accomplishment." Further analyses of "attribute - consequence - value" showed that the most frequently mentioned link between attributes and consequences was the link from "opportunities to do exercise" to "good health." The most frequently mentioned link between consequences and values was the link from “health (improve fitness)” to “sense of accomplishment (enhance self-confidence).” This study provides useful information for managers in the bicycle industry and for policy makers who promote cycling activities. |
