英文摘要 | Abstract The purpose of this paper is to identify two specific questions of the decision-making process for signal coordination: 1) how to interconnect adjacent intersections under safety and efficient considerations and 2) whether dichotomous judgments are sufficient to aid the decisive coordination for adjacent intersections. To address these two issues, a car-following model was used to determine the block-length necessary for safety, while May’s continuum model and mathematical analysis were used for efficiency. From these considerations, an interval between two values was determined, under which the pattern of performance curve is flat and the performance difference is the most significant in its neighborhood. This indicated that the adjacent intersections must be coordinated and the dichotomy judgments proposed in literature may not be reliable. The findings of this study may lead to a better understanding of the decision-making process for signal coordination. |
