英文摘要 | The central concern of this thesis is to examine with care of the structural pattern of Hemingway's prose and demonstrate the exellent balance and symmetry in his novels. His four novels--The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Old and The Sea--will be discused in the order of their original publication. My thesis is diveded into seven chapters. Chapter One gives a general introduction of Hemingway as a popular American writer and provides important evidence that Hemingway's contribution to American writing has been unique. Chapter Two explores the possibitlty of applying the schematic model of tragic structure in drama to a sample of Hemingway's work. Chapter Three to Chapter six the structures of his four major novels are analyzed. The last chapter is a conclusion, summarizing the main ideas discussed in the preceeding chapters and confirming Hemingway's reputaton as a master of fiction. |
